Emily brought home several things that she's been working on at school over the past month. There was a clay penguin (very cute) and some painted hand-prints, some math worksheets and her Journal for the month of January. I thought I would share a few bits of insight from the mind of a seven-year-old:
When I am bored I complain.
When I am angry sometimes I want to punch someone. I ushally (sic) take deep breaths instead.
I like to have all good erasers on every pencil.
I certainly get tired when I fill my stomach so heavy no one can lift me.
Crying is for babies. If you cry when you are 8 your a cry baby.
Ah -- do you remember when one of your biggest concerns was having a good eraser on your pencil?! That made me laugh -- but mostly I could totally relate to everything she had written. One item of concern was that she usually takes deep breaths instead of punching someone.... what does she do the other times? I also thought that it was fitting that if you cry when you're eight, you're a cry-baby, but not when you're seven... of course!
Just a little update on Disney Princesses on Ice -- we had a great time and the show was actually pretty good. Let me just tell anyone who ever thinks they want to go -- take your own snacks! I almost had a coronary when the woman beside me bought some cotton candy from the guy who walks up and down the aisles... $10!!!! Are you freakin' kidding me? That little bag of "gold" probably cost all of about .10 to make - snowcones were the same and don't even get me started on all the fun light-up gadgets that every kid just has to have ($18-25)...
Lucky for me, Emily and I had the conversation beforehand that we were not there to buy snacks or junky toys that will sit at the bottom of a toybox until we throw them away in a few months and she never once asked for anything -- I'm sure it helped that we hit the grocery store before the arena and she got to pick out some candy to take.
Anyhow, she's a great kid and it was fun to spend some time with her.
Tomorrow is her very first dance competition -- hopefully all goes well and she has a good time -- personally, I'm looking forward to experiencing the stage moms first hand... they're a breed of their own.

This is very fun! Somehow Christopher, I think I'll get to hear more about what is going in the Neelans family with this idea!
Emily's journal thoughts are great! I can remember, (even though it was several years ago) about having the same concerns about all my pencils having good erasers!! Love, Mom
