Changing Gears

As I've been wallowing in a bit of self-pity for the multitude of things that have gone wrong over the past few months (and just today I have a car headed for the repair shop for yet another host of issues), I've really lost sight of the many things we have to be truly thankful for -- Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching (the Canadian event happens next Monday) and I think it's a good time to just list a few things that bring me joy:
1. My husband... who else could love/support me like he does through all the whining and complaining?
2. My Emily... she has taken her charge of "teaching me patience" to heart and we work on it every single day! Despite the frustrations of learning to parent as we go (and in spite of the MANY mistakes I've made), she loves me anyway and usually finds a way to make me laugh.
3. My family... oh how I miss them and wish they weren't so far away. Ours was not always a home of peace and harmony when we were younger but time has a way of dulling the unpleasant memories and really clarifying the good times.
4. Our freedom... I know it comes with a price -- I'm incredibly thankful for the people who love and serve us so we can enjoy the freedom of living in this country... Bill - we love and miss you and can't wait for you to return home.
5. The ability to laugh... even when all I really want to do is cry - laughter really is the best medicine and Emily and Chris have an unending supply of "doses" for me.

I hope I'll continue to look past the trials and see all the good things, too numerous to list, more often - it feels way better than wallowing!

I'm proud of you for listing things that are important things in your life, that is something I need to do more often. I hope that light on the car doesn't turn out to be to much of a headache. You are an amazing person and family and I know right now everything seems to be going wrong with something but it will be over soon just keep pushing through it all and it will be over before you know it. I know this because our family went through alot of crap all at once and it did end.
